The much-anticipated comedy drama Bhool Chuk Maaf, starring Rajkummar Rao and Wamiqa Gabbi, will now skip its planned theatrical release and instead premiere directly on Prime Video on May 16. Directed by Karan Sharma and backed by Maddock Films and Amazon MGM Studios, the film was initially slated to hit cinemas on May 9. However, the producers have opted for a digital-first strategy in response to the escalating tensions between India and Pakistan.
On May 8, Maddock Films issued a statement on Instagram explaining the decision. Citing recent national events and enhanced security measures, the announcement emphasized the importance of prioritizing public sentiment and safety. The production house shared, “While we were eagerly looking forward to celebrating the film with you in the theatres, the spirit of the nation comes first. Jai Hind.”
Despite the shift in release format, expectations remain high for the film’s digital debut. With its engaging storyline, talented cast, and timely themes, Bhool Chuk Maaf aims to reach audiences worldwide from the comfort of their homes. The move underscores the evolving landscape of Indian cinema, where strategic digital releases continue to redefine the traditional distribution model without compromising on reach or impact.
